Pakula SOFTease® and Diamond Head Lures (1997 to 2007)

The current materials used in our heads was developed in celebration of our 10th Anniversary in 1996. We spent many months developing, refining, testing and finally introducing our new range of lures. In keeping with our commitment to improvement, every lure in our range was evaluated and redesigned, resulting in the series of shapes called -UPGRADE- We have also introduced a few new lures.

22Although we have enjoyed accelerating success since the introduction of our first lures, we have never sat back and let the competition catch up. It takes a lot of determination, not to mention many hours to improve our best performers and a great deal of finance. We have consistently proven the results of this labour are worthwhile. As all the shapes were so new we thought it time our lures were made out of current materials, so we went to companies at the cutting edge of plastics developments in the aeronautic, space, medical and electronics fields. Thanks to their help and patience we experimented with many different materials resulting in two quite incredible new formulas, one soft and the other hard, that were specifically designed for us, as we still wanted to produce our lures in house. Pakula Tackle has always led the way with shapes, colours and materials.

The family tree began with solid coloured flexible heads, in fact we even made our own tapered 'slap skirts' for them. Then came clear flexible heads, with flexible insert that we have used ever since. The only one of these we can trace, now yellowed with age, is in Ian Miller's collection. These lures were great, but at the time the Durethane used for the heads was too thick to use in any type of production and the fumes were very toxic.

This heralded the next stage of lures that strangely enough were made to look as much like our flexible heads as possible, but in a hard material. Pakula Lure heads were made in Polyester Resin ever since. First with cut flat skirts and then Yo-Zuri skirts for many years, until early 1995 when they changed manufacturer and the quality and supply deteriorated. We then developed a range of customised skirts with Sevenstrand, USA, to suit our lures.

Though we have continuously upgraded our products the current changes have been so monumental in such a short time that they are indeed a revolution. As they were based on our previous products they are also part of an evolution. It is thus fitting that the term "EVOLUTION REVOLUTION is applied to this stage of our history. One of the results of using upgraded materials made to our requirements is the reintroduction of clear flexible heads using the modified -UPGRADE- head shapes. The flexible heads look similar to our accepted range of hard except that they are clearer and shinier. It is unlikely you'll pick them apart unless you squeeze them!

Although there are lures available in a similar look, there are none that are as shiny, strong, elastic and abrasion resistant as the original Pakula Lures. In fact many opposition soft heads crumble as easily as cheese and quite sticky. So there is no confusion with these lures we have called this range of lures SOFTease.

Pakula SOFTease are not spongy and in fact are just soft enough to feel natural. The slick polishedsurface of these lures allows the angler to pull thehead of the lure through the fish's mouth to set the hooks. Normal spongy soft lures allow the fish too much grip on the lure head so that the angler cannotapply enough pressure to pull the lure through the fish's mouth to successfully hook up.

The benefits of Pakula SOFTease, apart from the obvious natural feel to both you and the fish, is that they are lighter than normal hard heads and have a much easier and more aggressive action in the water. Because they are soft there is no more chipping of lure edges and boat transoms. Special UV stabilisation means the lure will last a very long time, and no matter how scuffed and dirty the lure gets the finish can be restored using a soft brush with warm soapy water. The Pakula SOFTease have such a tough, slick skin on them that you'll find it hard to find any Marlin bill marks on them, even after being hit a few times.

When you get to see and feel SOFTease you'll have a pleasing smile, knowing that you have in your hands a weapon you can use with total confidence having the absolute best chance of success.

During our experimentation for our new range of SOFTease we we we came across a material that is so clear, and tough we just had to use it for our new range of lure heads. The manufacturers have modified the mix and included UV stabilisers so that we now can offer you the toughest, clearest hard head on the market. So clear that we will only be producing them un-tinted. We have aptly named these the Pakula "Diamond Head Series"

We have belted these with hammers and broken the bricks underneath them without even scratching the lure heads! We are actually quite worried that they may damage your props. In fact I'll state right here that we will not be liable for any damage caused by these lure heads!

We closed the polyester manufacturing section and opened a new SOFTease and Diamond Head section while modifying every lure in the Pakula Range and produced over two hundred moulds. This was achieved without missing one delivery date on any orders. Nothing in the old division applies to the new, except for the fact that we still do it all ourselves. We are quite proud of this accomplishment and the results of our new lures.

This is all part of our commitment to you, to give you the best chance of success we can.
